Kochi & Alleppey Art Retreat
Dates: 17th October – 20th October
Art Medium: Oil Pastels
Kochi (formerly Cochin) is a vibrant port city in Kerala, India, known as the "Queen of the Arabian Sea" for its natural harbor and rich spice trade history, blending colonial charm (Portuguese, Dutch, British) with modern dynamism, featuring stunning backwaters, beaches, diverse cultures, and serving as Kerala's commercial hub with significant IT, manufacturing, and maritime industries, all centered around its historic Fort Kochi area and bustling Ernakulam mainland.
WHO IS THIS RETREAT FOR?
Curated exclusively for women from all walks of life...
Whether you’re just beginning or rediscovering your creative side, this retreat is for you,
If you:
• Want to explore a new hobby or add creative skills to your life
• Wish to express yourself through art, freely and without pressure
• Feel intimidated by a blank canvas
• Are going through a creative block and want to gently reconnect
• Crave time, space, and inspiration to slow down and create
No prior art experience needed, just an open heart and the willingness to try 🎨
Day 1 – Arrival & Immersion in Fort Kochi
Arrive and settle in · Meet fellow artists · Wander through Fort Kochi’s sun-washed lanes, where weathered colonial façades, flowering courtyards and the slow rhythm of coastal life unfold around the iconic Chinese fishing nets · Begin our first art session at David Hall, surrounded by quiet gardens and traces of the city’s layered past · Share a relaxed lunch by the sea, with salt in the air and fishing boats moving across the horizon.
Day 2 – Art Afloat in the Alleppey Backwaters
Step aboard a traditional boat and drift through Alleppey’s winding backwaters, past coconut palms, narrow canals and homes resting at the water’s edge. As the boat glides on, the shifting reflections, passing canoes and green, rain-fed landscape become our studio, offering a moving subject for observation and sketching.
Day 3 – Creating, Culture & Living Traditions
Mattancherry Exploration · Dutch Palace · Jew Town · Art Session · Riverside Dining · Kathakali Performance
Discover Kochi’s layered cultural landscape, beginning at the Dutch Palace, where painted murals and quiet rooms hold stories of Kerala’s royal and religious traditions. Wander through the spice-scented lanes of Jew Town and Mattancherry, past antique shops, old warehouses and walls marked by time. Pause to make art, then enjoy a leisurely riverside meal as the light softens over the water. End the day with a Kathakali performance, where elaborate makeup, sculptural costumes, expressive eyes and precise gestures bring ancient stories vividly to life.
Day 4 – Relax & Unwind
Final Art Session · Explore Broadway · Farewell Walk · Goodbyes
Spend one last morning creating together, gathering the impressions of Kerala into colour, line and form. Later, wander through Broadway’s lively streets, where market stalls, shopfronts and everyday city life create a final, richly textured glimpse of Kochi before our farewell walk and goodbyes.
